Mumbai, June 2: India all-rounder Sayali Satghare delivered a match-winning performance as SOBO Mumbai Falcons registered a memorable 16-run victory over Thane Sky Risers in the opening match of the inaugural Nuvama Private T20 Mumbai Women’s League at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.
Defending a competitive total of 173/6, the Falcons relied on Satghare’s impressive spell of 3/35 to restrict Thane Sky Risers to 157/8 in their 20 overs. Opener Mansi Patil fought hard with a well-made 46, while Saima Thakor contributed 29 and wicketkeeper Khushi Bhatia added a quickfire 28 off 16 balls. However, regular wickets prevented the chase from gaining momentum.
Earlier, Thane captain Saima Thakor created history by striking the very first ball of the tournament for a wicket and picking up another in the same over. Despite the dream start, Thane’s fielding lapses, including nine dropped catches, proved costly.
SOBO Mumbai Falcons recovered strongly through valuable contributions from Riya Chaudhari (43), Simran Shaikh (30) and Sarika Koli (26). The innings was powered to a formidable total by Hurley Gala, who remained unbeaten on 45 and provided the finishing flourish. Soumya Singh was the standout bowler for Thane with figures of 3/17.
The victory gives the Falcons a perfect start to their campaign in the historic first edition of the Women’s T20 Mumbai League. The tournament features Mumbai’s top talent and will conclude with the final at Wankhede Stadium on June 13.
