New Delhi, June 2: Hockey India has announced a 20-member Indian women’s hockey squad for the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup New Zealand 2025-26, set to be held in Auckland from June 15 to 21.
Midfielder Salima Tete will continue to captain the side as India aims to build momentum ahead of a crucial international season that includes the FIH World Cup and the Asian Games. Experienced goalkeepers Savita and Bichu Devi Kharibam headline the squad, while defenders Sushila Chanu, Nikki Pradhan and Jyoti provide stability at the back.
The team also features promising youngsters Lalthantluangi and Shilpi Dabas, who earned their maiden senior call-ups during the recent Australia tour. In midfield, Salima will be supported by Neha, Sunelita Toppo, Sakshi Rana and Deepika Soreng, while the attack will be led by prolific forward Navneet Kaur alongside Deepika, Rutuja Pisal, Annu and Ishika.
India heads into the tournament after a productive four-match tour of Australia, where the team gained valuable match practice and finished the series level with the hosts.
Placed in Pool A, India will face the United States, Japan and Uruguay in the group stage. Pool B consists of hosts New Zealand, Chile, Korea and France.
Chief Coach Sjoerd Marijne expressed confidence in the squad, stating that the blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talent provides the right balance to compete at the highest level.
India will begin its campaign against the United States on June 15 before taking on Japan and Uruguay in the remaining pool-stage fixtures.
