Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Auqib Nabi has received his maiden call-up to the Indian senior men’s team after Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka due to a left knee injury. Bumrah has not recovered fully after sustaining the injury during the ODI series against England.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed Nabi’s inclusion as Bumrah’s replacement in the squad.
The 24-year-old has been rewarded for his impressive domestic performances. Nabi picked up 104 wickets across the last two Ranji Trophy seasons, including 60 wickets in the 2025-26 season, playing a key role in Jammu and Kashmir’s historic maiden Ranji Trophy title.
He also impressed during the recent India A tour of Sri Lanka, claiming six wickets in two first-class matches, strengthening his case for national selection.
India, led by Shubman Gill, will begin the Test series against Sri Lanka in Galle from August 15 to 19, followed by the second Test in Colombo from August 23 to 27. The series forms part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle.
The updated Indian squad includes Shubman Gill (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sai Sudharsan (subject to fitness), Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain and debutant Auqib Nabi.
