India’s young left-arm spinner Manav Suthar enjoyed a dream start to his Test career, claiming impressive figures of 6/33 on debut against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh. The 23-year-old played a pivotal role in India’s dominance and described the occasion as a proud moment for himself and his family.
Speaking to JioStar, Suthar revealed that representing India in Test cricket had always been his ultimate goal. He said receiving his debut cap and the encouraging words from teammates, especially Kuldeep Yadav, made the experience even more special.
Reflecting on the pitch conditions, Suthar noted that there was assistance for spinners from the start. After noticing turn and variable bounce, he focused on bowling consistently in the right areas and relied heavily on his stock delivery. He also described his maiden Test wicket as his favourite moment of the match.
Suthar credited his preparation during the IPL for helping him make a smooth transition to red-ball cricket. Despite playing white-ball cricket in the tournament, he continued practising with the red ball and mentally prepared himself for a possible Test opportunity.
His outstanding performance marked a memorable beginning to what promises to be an exciting Test career for India.
