Baku, July 30: India enjoyed a successful outing at the 2026 U17 World Wrestling Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, as Nikita Sehrawat won a silver medal while Kamna Babal and Garima secured bronze medals in their respective weight categories.
Competing in the women’s 57kg division, Nikita Sehrawat produced an impressive run to the final before going down 0-6 to reigning U17 World silver medallist Epenesa Elison of the USA. Despite the defeat, Nikita finished with a commendable silver medal.
In the 49kg category, Kamna Babal bounced back strongly after a semifinal loss to Japan’s Saika Uchida. She defeated Russia’s Irina Tsydeeva 3-2 in a closely contested bronze-medal bout to earn a place on the podium.
Garima added another medal for India in the 73kg category. After narrowly losing 5-7 to USA’s Kaili Manuel in the semifinals, she dominated Spain’s Paula Benaixa Perez in the bronze-medal match, sealing a 10-0 victory by technical superiority (VSU).
The three medals highlighted India’s strong performance in the women’s competition at the U17 World Championships, with Nikita’s silver and the bronze medals won by Kamna and Garima boosting the country’s medal tally in Baku.
