Praggnanandhaa Stuns Carlsen Again, Creates New Milestone at Norway Chess 2026

Ahmedabad, June 3: Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa continued his sensational run at the prestigious Norway Chess 2026 by defeating World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen for the second time in the tournament, strengthening his challenge for the title.

The 20-year-old chess prodigy, supported by Adani Sportsline’s ‘Garv Hai’ initiative, secured his latest victory with the black pieces in Round 8, having earlier beaten Carlsen with white. The achievement makes Praggnanandhaa only the second Indian after Viswanathan Anand to register two classical wins over Carlsen in the same calendar year.

Widely regarded as one of the strongest events in world chess, Norway Chess features several of the game’s highest-ranked players. Praggnanandhaa’s back-to-back successes against the five-time world champion further underline his rapid rise among the global elite and highlight the growing dominance of Indian chess on the international stage.

Congratulating the young star, Pranav Adani, Director of Adani Enterprises Limited, praised Praggnanandhaa’s confidence, maturity and competitive spirit, describing the achievement as an inspiration for a new generation of Indian players.

With two rounds remaining, Praggnanandhaa is placed third in the standings with 12 points and remains firmly in contention for the title. He will face reigning World Champion Gukesh D in the next round before taking on Vincent Keymer in the tournament finale.
