India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu advanced to the women’s singles semifinals of the Japan Open Super 750 after Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara withdrew ahead of their quarterfinal match in Tokyo on Friday.
The semifinal appearance marks Sindhu’s first in a Super 750 tournament since the Denmark Open in 2023, underlining her return to consistent form on the BWF World Tour.
The 2019 BWF World Champion has now reached three semifinals this season, having earlier made the last four at the Malaysia Open Super 1000 and the Australian Open Super 500.
Sindhu will now face China’s Chen Yufei, the Tokyo Olympic gold medallist, in a high-profile semifinal clash. The winner will book a place in the women’s singles final.
The Indian ace has shown encouraging form throughout the 2026 season and will be aiming to continue her impressive run against one of her biggest rivals on the international circuit. A victory over Chen would put Sindhu within touching distance of her first Super 750 title in nearly three years and provide another major boost ahead of the season’s upcoming marquee tournaments.
