Former India captain Rohit Sharma has been declared fit to play in the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan after successfully passing a hamstring assessment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Rohit had suffered a hamstring injury during IPL 2026 and missed five matches before returning later in the tournament. Although he resumed playing for Mumbai Indians, questions remained about his fitness as he featured mainly as an Impact Player and did not spend full matches on the field.
The BCCI had earlier named Rohit in India’s ODI squad for the Afghanistan series, subject to fitness clearance. Following a detailed evaluation, the Sports Science team at the Centre of Excellence has now given him the green signal to participate.
The development comes as a major boost for India ahead of the series. At 39, Rohit remains a key figure in India’s ODI setup and is expected to play an important role as the team builds towards the 2027 ODI World Cup.
India’s squad for the Afghanistan ODIs includes Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh and others.
