Shubman Gill, Sree Charani shortlisted for ICC Player of the Month awards

Dubai, July 14: India captain Shubman Gill and left-arm spinner Sree Charani have been shortlisted for the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards for June, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Tuesday.

Gill earned his nomination after a prolific month across formats. He scored 126 in India’s innings victory over Afghanistan in the one-off Test before amassing 238 runs in the three-match ODI series at a strike rate of 135.22. His unbeaten 84 and 154 helped India complete a 3-0 clean sweep, earning him the Player of the Series award.

Bangladesh all-rounder Mossadek Hossain and New Zealand pacer Nathan Smith complete the men’s shortlist. Mossadek starred in Bangladesh’s 2-1 ODI series win over Australia with 157 runs and two wickets, while Smith claimed 16 wickets in New Zealand’s Test series triumph over England, including a nine-wicket match haul at Lord’s.

In the women’s category, India’s Sree Charani is joined by Scotland all-rounder Kathryn Bryce and England opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge. Charani impressed during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, finishing with 14 wickets in six matches, including match-winning spells against Pakistan, the Netherlands and South Africa.

Bryce contributed 178 runs and 11 wickets in seven T20Is during June, while Wyatt-Hodge was among the tournament’s leading run-scorers, highlighted by an unbeaten 105 against Sri Lanka and 89 against New Zealand.

The winners will be decided through votes cast by the ICC Voting Academy, which accounts for 90 per cent of the result, and fans, who contribute the remaining 10 per cent.
