Singapore, May 29: India enjoyed a mixed day at the Singapore Open 2026 as doubles pairs Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty and Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto advanced to the semifinals, while Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu bowed out in the quarterfinals.
Fourth-seeded Satwik and Chirag produced a spirited comeback to defeat Malaysia’s Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai 19-21, 21-17, 21-13 in a thrilling 65-minute men’s doubles contest. After dropping the opening game, the Indian duo raised their intensity, edged a closely fought second game, and dominated the decider to seal their semifinal berth. They will next face reigning world champions and world No. 1 Korean pair Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae.
In mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto secured their place in the last four after Malaysia’s third-seeded pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei retired during the opening game. The Indians will now take on Japan’s Yuichi Shimogami and Sayaka Hobara for a place in the final.
However, India’s singles challenge suffered setbacks. All England 2026 runner-up Lakshya Sen fought hard but lost 19-21, 21-15, 15-21 to Japan’s Koki Watanabe in a 68-minute battle.
Former world champion PV Sindhu also exited the tournament after a 21-17, 21-14 defeat to world No. 1 An Se Young of South Korea. The win extended An’s unbeaten head-to-head record against Sindhu to 9-0.
India now has two doubles pairs carrying its hopes into the semifinals.
