New Delhi, June 4: Indian boxing continued its remarkable rise on the global stage as the latest World Boxing Rankings placed several Indian pugilists among the world’s best. Leading the charge was Asian champion Jaismine Lamboria, who climbed to World No. 1 in the women’s 57kg category, while fellow Asian champions Priya Ghanghas and Vishvanath Suresh surged into the top three of their respective weight divisions.
India showcased exceptional depth in the rankings, with boxers featuring in the Top 10 across nine of the ten women’s categories and eight of the ten men’s divisions. In the women’s section, Minakshi retained her World No. 1 position in the 48kg category, while Preeti moved up to third. Arundhati Choudhary, Pooja Rani and Nupur secured World No. 2 rankings in their divisions, underlining India’s growing dominance across weight classes.
Among the men, Sachin and Narender entered the Top 5 following consistent international performances. Hitesh Gulia maintained his sixth-place ranking, while Abhinash Jamwal remained among the world’s top ten. Akash and Lokesh also earned Top-10 spots, highlighting India’s increasing competitiveness.
Boxing Federation of India President Ajay Singh credited the achievement to strong grassroots development and high-performance training systems. India currently ranks third globally in overall Top-10 athletes, second in women’s boxing, and fourth in the men’s category.
The latest rankings further cement India’s status as one of the world’s leading boxing nations, reflecting sustained success across elite and age-group international competitions.
