New Delhi, June 4: The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has finalized a strong U15 and U20 squad for the upcoming Asian Wrestling Championships in Pattaya, Thailand, following national selection trials held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi.
The trials witnessed intense competition across Men’s Freestyle, Greco-Roman, and Women’s Wrestling categories, with athletes from across the country battling for a place in the national team. The selected wrestlers will represent India in one of Asia’s premier age-group wrestling events and undergo a mandatory national preparatory camp before departure.
WFI President Sanjay Singh praised the standard of competition and emphasized the federation’s commitment to developing future champions through grassroots programs and international exposure.
Among the standout selections in the U20 Women’s Wrestling squad are Savita (62kg), Mansi Lather (68kg), Parveen (50kg), Muska (53kg), and Kajal (55kg), while Samruddhi Satish (33kg) and Gauri Satish (39kg) headlined the U15 girls’ contingent.
In Men’s Freestyle, Pawan Balaji Dhayagude (65kg), Sumitkumar Laxman Bharaskar (70kg), and heavyweight Ronak (125kg) earned U20 berths, while Jatin (38kg), Gautam (41kg), Harshad Keshav Chemte (75kg), and Vivek Chauhan (85kg) secured places in the U15 team.
The Greco-Roman squads also feature promising talent, including Neeraj Patel, Aaryan Malik, Dheeraj Kumar Malik, and Dishant in the U20 category. Rising wrestlers Rohit Ashok Mali and Paryas Dhounchak will lead India’s challenge in the U15 division.
The championships will provide a crucial platform for India’s next generation of wrestling stars to showcase their talent on the continental stage.
