RPG Art Foundation Unveils ‘Overshoot — Leaning Ecologies’ at Nariman Point

Mumbai, August 13, 2026: The RPG Art Foundation, in association with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), has unveiled ‘Overshoot — Leaning Ecologies’, a new public art installation by artist and sculptor Arunkumar H G at Nariman Point, Mumbai. The installation was inaugurated by Rahul Narwekar, Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.

Inspired by the ancient landscape of Garapuri, or Elephanta Island, the artwork reflects Mumbai’s connection with its historical and ecological past. The installation incorporates marble, granite, basalt and sandstone, along with old carvings in its foundation.

At its centre is an elephant, inspired by the historic Garapuri Elephant, while a fluid architectural form rests on its back, shifting between a tower, temple shrine, skyline and eroding mountain. The artwork explores themes of memory, resilience, urban growth and ecological transformation.

Narwekar said the installation captures the evolution of Mumbai and represents the balance between the city’s past and future.

Arunkumar H G said the work brings together Mumbai’s contemporary aspirations and the deep historical landscape on which the city stands.

The RPG Art Foundation said the installation aims to encourage viewers to reflect on Mumbai’s history and the future being built, while making art more accessible to citizens.

Arunkumar’s works have been exhibited at platforms including the Kochi-Muziris Biennale and international art events in Istanbul and Denmark.
