The teaser of Mahakali, the upcoming mythological film from filmmaker Prasanth Varma’s Cinematic Universe, has been released, offering a fresh perspective on the traditional conflict between Devas and Asuras.

The film explores the story from the Asuras’ point of view and questions the conventional idea of good and evil. At the centre of the teaser is Shukracharya, the Guru of the Asuras, played by Akshaye Khanna. His character raises questions about the Samudra Manthan, the distribution of Amrit and why the Asuras were denied their share of immortality.

The teaser also questions why the Asuras were denied Indra’s throne and eventually sent to the underworld. Shukracharya declares that his people will break free from oppression, setting the stage for a larger conflict.

Raktabeej is introduced as a major threat, with Shukracharya ordering him to destroy humanity. The teaser also features a mysterious newborn baby whose connection with Goddess Mahakali remains unexplained. The child is seen first being placed inside a temple and later in Mahakali’s hands.

The teaser concludes with the line “The End Begins” and announces the film’s release for January 8, 2027.

Mahakali stars Akshaye Khanna, Sriya Reddy, Bhoomi Shetty, Rohit Saraf, Rakesh Bedi, Samuthrakani, Rajat Kapoor, Murali Sharma, Nassar and Prudhviraj.

Puja Aparna Kolluru has directed the film, while Prasanth Varma is the creator of the PVCU.
