Uber Expands to 100 More Indian Cities, Takes Presence to 225 Cities

Mumbai, August 12, 2026: Uber has announced one of its largest expansions in India, entering 100 additional cities and taking its presence to around 225 cities across the country. The expansion, led by the launch of Uber Bike, aims to provide affordable and convenient mobility in smaller cities while creating flexible earning opportunities for local drivers.

The new expansion covers 18 states and one Union Territory, with Uber Bike initially launching in cities including Jammu, Tirunelveli, Silchar and Jamnagar. The service is positioned as an affordable option for short-distance travel and first- and last-mile connectivity.

Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari welcomed the expansion, saying that the move can help bring affordable mobility to more Indians while creating livelihood opportunities. He also highlighted the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines 2025 as a framework for states to adopt bike taxis and other new mobility solutions.

Rishant Ghosh, Director – Consumer & Growth, Uber India & South Asia, said the expansion will strengthen access to reliable and affordable mobility and meet the growing demand for convenient transportation beyond major metropolitan areas.

Uber said Bike will complement its wider mobility offerings, including Auto, cars, airport rides and Intercity services, as well as public transport integrations.

The company also highlighted in-app safety features such as Real-Time ID Check, SOS, Share Trip Status and its 24×7 Safety Line.

As part of its Independence Day celebrations, first-time Uber riders can avail themselves of a free first ride for a limited period, subject to applicable terms and conditions.
