Mumbai, May 4, 2026: The “Fit India Hit India” Friendly Cricket Match, organised by the Sports Authority of India under the Fit India Movement, turned into an exciting showcase of fitness and sportsmanship as the GST & Customs Amateur Team defeated Mumbai Heroes by 39 runs at the Air India Ground.
Batting first, GST & Customs posted a strong 170/5 in 20 overs. Akhilesh Kumar anchored the innings with a steady 57, while Parag Khanapurkar provided momentum with a quickfire 45 off 21 balls. Contributions from Amit Dhaiya (22) and Aishwarya Surve (21*) further boosted the total. For Mumbai Heroes, Freddy Daruwala impressed with the ball, claiming 2/21, while Sharad Kelkar chipped in with a wicket.
In reply, Mumbai Heroes struggled early, losing Sohail Khan for just 1 and skipper Suniel Shetty for 6. Navdeep Tomar’s 42 offered some resistance, while Shabir Ahluwalia (17) and Sharad Kelkar (12) made brief contributions. However, consistent wickets derailed the chase, restricting them to 131/9.
Ajit Dan starred with the ball, picking up three wickets and earning the Man of the Match award, while Pandurang Chate also claimed three scalps. Akhilesh Kumar was named Best Batsman.
The match, attended by dignitaries and celebrities, highlighted the importance of fitness, unity, and active living, reinforcing the core message of the Fit India initiative through sport.
