Jakarta, July 9: India’s U-19 women boxers continued their impressive campaign at the Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships by securing eight assured medals after six more boxers advanced to the semifinals with dominant quarterfinal victories on Day 5 in Jakarta.
Chandrika Bhoresh Pujari (51kg) led the charge with a convincing 5-0 win over Kazakhstan’s Zhadyra Kaltay, while Joyshree Devi (54kg) also recorded a dominant 5-0 victory against Kazakhstan’s Maral Tolepbergen.
Prachi (57kg) maintained her excellent form by defeating Uzbekistan’s Robiya Ravshanova 5-0, and Chahat (60kg) registered another comprehensive 5-0 win over Kazakhstan’s Zhasmin Abramyan.
In the 48kg category, Gunjan battled past Mongolia’s Altanzul Altangadas with a 3-0 split decision, while Anshika (75kg) sealed her semifinal berth after a hard-fought 4-1 victory against Kazakhstan’s Altyngul Aimukhan.
India, however, suffered two quarterfinal setbacks. Vanshika (65kg) lost to Uzbekistan’s Rushanabonu Isoeva via first-round RSC, while Lakshu (70kg) went down 5-0 to Uzbekistan’s Maftuna Yangieva.
With these results, India has now guaranteed eight medals in the U-19 women’s competition, underlining the strength of the country’s emerging boxing talent.
The Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships are being held in Jakarta from July 5 to 16, providing India’s young boxers with valuable international exposure ahead of future continental and world-level events.
