India Win Two U-23 Golds at Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships

Jakarta, July 16: India ended its men’s campaign at the Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships on a high, winning two gold medals and three silver medals in the finals held in Jakarta.

The U-23 contingent led the charge with impressive performances. Vishvanath Suresh (50kg) claimed the gold medal after edging Japan’s Daichi Iwai 3-2 in a closely contested final. Ganga (55kg) also struck gold, defeating Kazakhstan’s Bexulatn Boranbek by an identical 3-2 split decision.

In the 65kg final, Vanshaj settled for silver after going down 4-1 to Uzbekistan’s Ilkhomjon Ergashev despite a determined effort.

In the U-19 men’s finals, India added two more silver medals. Aditya (55kg) lost 5-0 to Uzbekistan’s Elyor Rustamov, while Shubham Rajput (90kg) also finished runner-up after a 5-0 defeat against Uzbekistan’s Asadbek Sultanboev.

Overall, India concluded the men’s competition with two gold and three silver medals, underlining the country’s growing strength in age-group boxing. The U-23 boxers, in particular, impressed with their title-winning performances against strong international opposition.

The Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships were held in Jakarta from July 5 to 16, bringing together some of Asia’s best young boxing talents.
