Jaiswal’s Bizarre Run-Out Leaves India Stunned in Galle

Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed in bizarre fashion during India’s first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Saturday after a major mix-up with KL Rahul left both batters stranded at the same end.

The confusion began when Rahul drove a flighted delivery from Sri Lankan spinner Keshara Nuwantha towards mid-on. As Nuwantha attempted to stop the ball, he collided with Jaiswal at the non-striker’s end, causing the Indian opener to lose his footing and fall.

Rahul had already started running for a single but stopped after seeing Jaiswal on the ground. Jaiswal then got back up and appeared to signal that he wanted to complete the run, before suddenly turning back towards the bowler’s end.

Rahul interpreted the movement differently and continued towards the striker’s end. By the time Jaiswal tried to return, Rahul had already reached the crease, leaving both batters at the same end.

Sri Lanka initially hesitated before completing the run-out, with wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella checking with captain Dhananjaya de Silva before removing the bails. The umpires subsequently confirmed the dismissal.

Jaiswal was dismissed for 32 off 37 balls, including five fours. It was the third run-out of his Test career.

The dismissal came during India’s 600th Test, being played on the country’s 80th Independence Day. India won the toss and elected to bat.
