Mumbai, August 13, 2026: Former India batter Ajinkya Rahane is set to begin a new chapter in his cricket career as he makes his Test commentary debut during India’s upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
Rahane will join the Sony Sports Network commentary panel for the series, which begins in Galle on August 15. The 37-year-old recently brought the curtain down on an illustrious playing career spanning nearly 18 years.
Rahane played 85 Tests for India, scoring 5,077 runs at an average of 38.46, including 12 centuries and 26 half-centuries. He was also a key member of India’s successful Test campaigns overseas and led the team to a memorable series victory in Australia during the 2020-21 tour.
Speaking about his new role, Rahane said he was excited to make his Test commentary debut and described Test cricket as the pinnacle of the sport. He said his experience of representing India in the format would help him offer viewers a different perspective on the game.
Rahane added that he looks forward to sharing his experiences, explaining the nuances of Test cricket and providing insights into the strategies, decisions and key moments that can influence a match.
His transition from the playing field to the commentary box marks a new phase in his cricket journey. Fans will now get an opportunity to hear analysis from a player who has experienced the demands of international Test cricket firsthand.
The India-Sri Lanka Test series will begin in Galle on August 15, with Rahane joining the broadcast team for the two-match contest.
