Kajal Wins 76kg Gold as India’s Medal Tally Reaches 12 in Budapest

Budapest, July 19: Reigning U20 World Champion Kajal continued her impressive rise on the senior circuit by winning the women’s 76kg gold medal at the Polyák Imre, Varga János & Kozma István Memorial Senior Ranking Tournament 2026 in Budapest.

In a closely contested final against USA’s Dymond Precious Guilford, Kajal held her nerve to emerge victorious on criteria after the bout ended 3-3, securing India’s third gold medal of the tournament.

India also added two silver medals on the day. Antim Panghal finished runner-up in the women’s 53kg category after being forced to concede the final against Sweden’s Emma Malmgren due to injury. In the 57kg final, Neha Sharma settled for silver after going down 0-4 to China’s Kexin Hong.

Nishu added another medal to India’s tally by claiming bronze in the women’s 53kg event. She defeated Romania’s Andrea Beatrice Ana on criteria after their bronze-medal bout ended 2-2.

With the latest results, India has won 12 medals at the prestigious ranking series, including three gold, four silver and five bronze medals.

India’s medal winners so far include gold medallists Aman Sehrawat (57kg), Neha (59kg) and Kajal (76kg). The silver medals have come through Antim Panghal (53kg), Hansika Lamba (55kg), Neha Sharma (57kg) and Mansi (62kg), while Nishu (53kg), Savita (62kg), Deepak (61kg), Vishal Kaliraman (65kg) and Rajat Ruhal (125kg) have claimed bronze medals.

The Indian contingent will next compete in the Greco-Roman events as it looks to add to its medal haul.
