New Delhi, July 20: Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has urged the Indian team management to provide clear communication regarding the ODI futures of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli if they are part of the plans for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.
Speaking to JioStar, Yuvraj said uncertainty over selection can affect senior players and stressed that the management should publicly back the experienced duo if they intend to retain them. “If you want them to play the World Cup, tell them now and back them all the way. They need the clarity that even if they have one poor series, they will still be in the team,” he said.
Drawing from his own experience, Yuvraj revealed that he never received such clarity during the latter stages of his international career and described it as disappointing after years of representing India. He added that if senior players are not in the team’s future plans, selectors should communicate it honestly.
Yuvraj also expressed concern over the lack of opportunities for young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal despite his recent success. He warned that limited game time before the World Cup could leave the youngster underprepared if called upon in a major tournament.
Commenting on India’s recent performances, including the decision to leave out spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the third ODI against England, Yuvraj said every team goes through transitional phases. While acknowledging India’s recent setbacks, he reminded critics that the team has won three major ICC titles in the last few years and backed the side to regroup and return stronger.
