India midfielder Manpreet Singh is determined to help India end its 51-year wait for a men’s Hockey World Cup title, saying the 2026 edition could be his final World Cup appearance.
Speaking to JioStar, Manpreet said India’s back-to-back Olympic medals have strengthened the team’s belief, but a World Cup medal remains missing from its cabinet. He stressed that the squad has the talent, experience and preparation to challenge for the title.
Manpreet also highlighted the importance of respecting every opponent and maintaining focus throughout the tournament. He said the team has worked extensively on fitness and defence while senior players have shared their experience with the younger members.
On facing rivals such as Pakistan, Manpreet said India would stick to its game plan regardless of the opponent’s reputation. He emphasised teamwork, discipline and emotional balance as key factors in delivering strong performances.
The experienced midfielder also praised captain Harmanpreet Singh for his leadership, game-reading ability, passing and drag-flicking skills, saying his presence gives the team confidence.
Manpreet expressed strong belief that India can reach the World Cup final and said the squad is giving 100 per cent in training.
India will begin its FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 campaign against Wales on Saturday, August 15, with the match scheduled from 4:30 PM onwards. The match will be LIVE on JioHotstar and Star Sports.
