Rishabh Pant Becomes First Indian to Hit 100 Test Sixes, Breaks Massive Record

Galle, August 18, 2026: India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant created history during the fourth day of the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle on Tuesday, becoming the first Indian batter to hit 100 sixes in Test cricket.

Pant reached the landmark during his knock of 66 runs after hitting two sixes in his innings. The milestone further underlined his reputation as one of the most aggressive batters in the history of Test cricket.

Pant also became the fastest batter ever to reach 100 sixes in Tests, achieving the feat in just 4,918 balls. He reached the milestone in his 89th Test innings, eight years after making his international debut.

Former Australia wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist, who was previously the fastest to the landmark, took 6,578 balls to score his first 100 Test sixes. Gilchrist was also the first batter in Test history to reach the 100-six mark and eventually finished his career with 100 sixes in 137 innings.

Former England captain Ben Stokes took 9,042 balls to reach 100 Test sixes and ended his career with 138 maximums. Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum reached the landmark after facing 9,756 balls.

Pant’s latest achievement adds another significant milestone to his Test career. Known for his attacking batting style, the left-hander has repeatedly changed the tempo of matches with his ability to score boundaries against both pace and spin.

His record-breaking feat came as India continued their Test battle against Sri Lanka in Galle, giving Pant another place in the record books of the longest format.
