Mumbai/Latur, August 21, 2026: Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has announced that Ashiv village in Latur has become Maharashtra’s first 100% LPG-free village powered by Piped Natural Gas (PNG).
The milestone was formally commemorated on August 20 at a ceremony in Ashiv, attended by MGL Chief Executive Officer (SBU) Yadnesh Dhuri, local administration officials, Gram Panchayat representatives, MGL officials and village residents.
MGL has connected 1,050 households in Ashiv to its PNG network, enabling residents to shift completely from cylinder-based LPG to piped cooking gas. The company said the transition will provide households with a continuous supply of cooking fuel directly to their kitchens, eliminating the need to book LPG cylinders and wait for deliveries.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dhuri said Ashiv’s achievement demonstrates that city gas infrastructure can be extended effectively into rural areas. He described the village as a potential model that could be replicated in other villages across MGL’s Latur Geographical Area and other operating regions.
He also highlighted the safety, convenience and uninterrupted supply offered by PNG, adding that MGL will continue expanding access to clean and reliable energy across Maharashtra and Karnataka.
MGL acknowledged the support of the local administration, authorities and Ashiv residents in implementing the PNG network.
The initiative is also aligned with India’s broader push towards cleaner energy and greater adoption of gas-based infrastructure. MGL urged residents across Latur to adopt PNG and contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
